I think this would be a fun idea for a MB Wagon.

Step 1. Take an E Class wagon/estate. (Awesome color)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Step 2. Put in the M275 engine (Bi turbo V12) from a CL65 AMG (or any other 65 AMG car).

Kinja'd!!!

Step 3. Add a manual beefed up trans that can handle the hp and tq. Plus adaptor bracket for engine and trans and clutch pedal.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Step 4. Enjoy it while having a completely empty bank account.

So I don’t know how apocryphal this is, but I seem to recall that MB started a policy of NOT selling you AMG parts without a matching vin . I heard this regarding someone who put the McMerc Engine into an SL back in the mid 2000's. He got the engine from the dealer and later when he went to get it serviced they had changed their policy and refused to sell him parts since the vin wasn’t for the McLaren SLR.

AMGtech can chime in any time.

Didn’t Brabus do something similar?

Merc (and Jaguar) engines won’t work without their gearboxes. Hence the chronic lack of manual swaps for those cars. That said where there is a will there is a way but that way requires in depth knowledge of hacking ECUs and bootleg wiring.

I support this idea.

I wonder if someone with enough knowledge, money, and time could make a stand alone ecu work with this.

Similar with their upgraded 7.3 liter, but no manual trans.

So you’d technically need to keep the donor car or just have it’s vin with you if you were ever to go by the dealership.

I don’t know that it’s a hard and fast rule, or what it may apply to. People buy AMG badges and other miscellaneous things without a VIN all the time. It may be along the lines of “we need the original VIN to get you the correct parts, otherwise you get nothing”. Uly would probably have a better idea than me since he does more on the parts side of things.

That can be worked around.

Sounds awesome, but I honestly think it would cost you a quarter million and about two years. I’m 100% positive it could be done though. I assume you want the 275 because twin turbo V12. But honestly it’s archaic and problematic. You’re better off with the factory engine and just getting a manual to work with it. For example, S211 E63 as pictured, with M156 engine. Some exhaust work, a supercharger, tune, injectors, 800-1000hp easy, conservatively. Better base engine, killer power, more reliable, less initial investment. Just add manual, more than cut my cost estimate in half.

Or go for a ‘12-13 E63. Just software tune for 800hp. Just add manual. ‘14 and up might be nearly impossible to add manual to because those are AWD and the transfer case is integral to the transmission.

I thought it would be an expensive headache to achive this idea. lol I really liked the idea of creating a manual E65 AMG wagon/estate. Since they never offered the M275 in it, and plus having a bi-turbo V12 wagon just sounds fun.

So the best bet for this would be to put a manual transmission on the stock M156 that has a supercharger, intake, exhaust, and tune. I prefer RWD to AWD. Plus I really don’t need the AWD in South Florida.

Thank you for the information AMGtech!
